Dental implants are beneficial option for the edentulous population with advanced ridge resorption. Implant overdentures have proven to be a viable and cost-effective treatment alternative with high success rates. A wide choice of implant overdenture designs exists based on the number and distribution of implants, splinted or unsplinted anchorage systems, amount of cantilever and maintenance. Clinical and evidence-based guidelines help dentists plan successful treatment outcomes. The purpose of this presentation is to review the epidemiology of the edentulous population and to establish criteria for treatment considerations for implant overdentures.
