The orthodontist is sometimes faced with complex cases in which successful management can only be achieved through an interdisciplinary approach with other dental specialties. One of these challenging situations involves the management of traumatised anterior teeth with poor long-term prognosis. For these patients there is no ideal solution and so as there are a number of treatment options, several factors should be taken into account before embarking on treatment. One treatment option that should be considered in a growing patient with incisors of poor prognosis is tooth autotransplantation. This treatment modality has been shown to be highly successful when cases are planned and executed properly. This is best achieved by an interdisciplinary approach where different specialties plan and treat cases together. This presentation will highlight the successful use of autotransplantation in the management of such cases and touch on other situations where autotransplantation may be beneficial.
