Basic Contemporary Endodontic Courses

Teaching staff: Faculty of Oral and dental medicine, Future University staff members plus selected staff members from other universities.
Duration: Four days 

Course Content:
  • Surgical microscope; components, uses, advantaged and limitations. 
  • Coronal access preparation and methods of locating extra canals. 
  • Use of Ultrasonics and errors in coronal access preparation. 
  • Cleaning and shaping of the root canal system, using manual and rotaries. 
  • Root canal irrigation and medication. 
  • Obturation of the root canal space: warm vertical and thermoplasticized gutta percha.  
  • Diagnosis, Local anaethesia, and endodontic emergency. 
Course Objectives:
  • Identify different parts of the surgical microscope and its mechanism of action. 
  • Get acquainted with the operator's different positions during using the microscope for different teeth. 
  • Know how to perform a proper access cavity preparation using the microscope. 
  • Identify extra canals and how to locate them using ultrasonics. 
  • Use manual and rotary crown down approach during cleaning and shaping and how to judge canal cleanliness.  
  • Change his/her method of obturation from lateral to vertical compaction and thermo plasticized techniques. 

Participants will get the chance to perform this course on live patient using dental operating microscope on single rooted tooth.

Advanced Contemporary Endodontic Course

Credit hours: 18 CE

Teaching staff: Faculty of Oral and dental medicine, Future University staff members plus selected staff members from other universities.
 

Course content:
  • Post treatment endodontic disease: causes and predisposing factors. 
  • Coronal disassembly and post removal. 
  • Removal of gutta percha and establishing patency of the canals. 
  • Management of endodontic complications; ledges, perforations and broken instruments. 
  • Regenerative endodontics. 
  • Traumatic injuries. 
Course objectives:
  • Understand the rationale behind retreatment and success rate. 
  • Identify Different causes for failure of root canal treatment. 
  • Discuss the different predisposing factors to failure. 
  • Realize inter and intra-individual variation in decision making among dentists. 
  • Be able to decide the need for endodontic retreatment or choose other treatment options. 
  • Learn the different methods of coronal disassembly. 
  • Manage removal of different types of posts. 
  • Remove different types of defective root canal filling materials. 
  • Manage ledges and sharp curvatures. 
  • Diagnose different types of perforations and how to repair them. 
  • Identify the different causes of instrument separation and practice different techniques for their removal. 

Participants will get the chance to perform this course on live patient using dental operating microscope on single rooted tooth.

Endodontic Microsurgery

Teaching staff: Faculty of Oral and dental medicine, Future Univ staff members plus selected staff members from other universities. 

Course Content:
  • Indications for endodontic surgery. 
  • Anatomy in Endodontic surgery. 
  • Flap design, incision and reflection. 
  • Bone removal and root end cutting. 
  • Retrocavity and retrofilling. 
  • MTA and the ideal material. 
  • Corrective surgery. 
Course objectives:
  • Realize the importance of surgical microscope in endodontic microsurgery. 
  • Judge the different problems needing microsurgery. 
  • Identify the different anatomic landmarks involved with endodontic microsurgery. 
  • Learn different tips for successful anesthesia. 
  • Master different flap designs and suturing techniques. 
  • Learn different haemostatic techniques. 
  • Understand the rationale behind the level and bevel of the cut during apicectomy. 
  • Get acquainted with ultrasonic retro-tips and ultrasonic retro-cavities. 
  • Get familiar with MTA and placement techniques. 
  • Master apical microsurgery in anterior and posterior regions. 
  • Perform molar microsurgery with precision and accuracy.  

Optional to perform endodontic microsurgery on live patient.

Clinical Attachment

Credit hours: 72 CE
Lectures: 24 hours
Practical: 96 hours
Course Director: Prof/ Ahmed Abdel Rahman Hashem

Teaching staff: Faculty of Oral and dental medicine, Future Univ staff members plus selected staff members from other universities.

Clinical attachment duration vary from 2 weeks to full month. Participants get on the road to be familiar with anatomy of surgical microscope and magnification. Learn theoretical and practical on how to perform rational microendodontics and retreatment with extensive clinical work in the clinic on patients.
